President John Dramani Mahama has warned road contractors who received double payments under previous administrations that they will be severely punished according to the law.
Speaking during his Eastern Regional Thank You Tour, on Sunday, July 20,the President revealed that an audit into road contracts has uncovered cases where some contractors were paid twice—once from the Road Fund and again from the Ministry of Finance—without delivering any work.
“When we took office, we noticed some contractors had been paid twice for the same projects, yet no work had been done,” President Mahama stated. “So we asked the Auditor-General to investigate. The audit is complete, and we now have the full picture.”
He emphasized that while legitimate contractors will return to site to resume stalled road works, those found guilty of double-dipping will not be spared.
“Those who took double payments will be severely dealt with. We won’t tolerate that level of dishonesty, especially when the nation is crying out for better roads,” he stressed.
President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development under the Big Push Agenda but noted that accountability and transparency must be upheld.
