The Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan-Mensah, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to a just and equitable global energy transition at the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (BOGA)–European Commission Ministerial Dialogue on energy and economic security.
He represented the sector Minister, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor (MP), at the high-level engagement focused on strategies for advancing the global shift away from fossil fuels.
Speaking at the dialogue, Mr Gyan-Mensah stressed that the global energy transition must reflect the development realities of emerging economies, particularly in Africa, where addressing energy poverty remains a pressing priority.
He reiterated Ghana’s position that the transition should be both inclusive and balanced, ensuring that developing countries are not disadvantaged in the pursuit of global climate goals.
He outlined Ghana’s dual approach, which includes the strategic use of natural gas as a transition fuel while simultaneously expanding investments in renewable energy, improving energy access, strengthening energy security, and promoting green technologies.
According to him, these measures are aimed at building an energy system that is reliable, affordable, resilient, and increasingly sustainable.
Mr. Gyan-Mensah emphasized that the transition to cleaner energy must go beyond environmental considerations to also strengthen economies, create jobs, and improve living standards.
He further called for strengthened international cooperation to ensure that the global energy transition delivers sustainable development outcomes while guaranteeing that no country is left behind.
