Vice-President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has announced the official implementation of the ‘No Fees Stress’ policy on Thursday, July 4, 2025.
Prof. Opoku-Agyamng made this known on Saturday, June 28, 2025, while addressing the 58th Special Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
“The No Fees Stress Policy, aimed at easing financial burdens for first-year public tertiary students, has already recorded nearly 130,000 applicants and is set to be officially launched on July 4th,” she revealed.
The policy, which waives academic user fees for first-year students, was a key pledge by President John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 election campaign.
It is part of broader government efforts to improve access to tertiary education and reduce financial barriers for Ghanaian students.
The ‘No Fees Stress’ policy underscores the Mahama administration’s broader commitment to removing financial obstacles to higher education, ensuring that every qualified Ghanaian student has the opportunity to pursue tertiary education without fear of financial hardship.
The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), which is administering the policy, has confirmed that over 22,000 applicants have already been validated under the initiative.
The government has also introduced a dedicated digital platform—the ‘No-Fee-Stress Portal’—to facilitate easy and transparent application processes.
The portal provides detailed information on eligibility, participating institutions, and other relevant requirements.
The Vice-President also reaffirmed government’s commitment to upholding academic freedom and protecting the autonomy of educational institutions, while ensuring effective oversight through the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
