Police in the Tema Region have intercepted 5,039 compressed parcels of suspected narcotic substances concealed in a tipper truck during an anti-drug operation at Afienya.
Two suspects were arrested in connection with the interception and have since been remanded into custody as investigations continue.
According to the police, one of the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe officers with GH¢150,000 to secure the release of the truck and its cargo, but the offer was rejected.
Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu, said the interception formed part of intensified operations against narcotics trafficking and organised crime in the region.
“Our officers rejected an alleged GH¢150,000 bribe offered by a suspect who sought the release of the truck carrying the suspected narcotic substances,” DCOP Asiedu said.
He commended the officers for rejecting the alleged inducement and reaffirmed the Command’s determination to clamp down on criminal activities.
“The Tema Regional Police Command remains resolute, vigilant and fully committed to combating crime. We have strengthened intelligence gathering, patrols and collaboration with other security agencies. There will be no haven for criminals within this Region,” he stated.
The suspected narcotic substances and the truck remain in police custody while investigations continue.
Police are also pursuing other persons believed to be connected to the suspected drug trafficking operation.
