The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested a group of suspects linked to a motorbike theft syndicate and recovered 17 suspected stolen motorbikes from different locations in the region.
The arrests followed investigations into the theft of a black Luojia motorbike from the premises of the Ghana National Fire Service in Jirapa on July 11, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Police on Thursday, July 23, officers acting on intelligence arrested Nasiru Muftawu at Loho while he was allegedly in possession of the stolen motorbike.
Police said the suspect admitted during interrogation to stealing the motorbike and was subsequently taken into custody to assist with investigations.
Further intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrests of Basit Muftawu, alias Posey, 19; Issahaku Maruf, alias Katel, 22; and Mohammed Ali, alias Geewaa, 18.
Police also recovered additional exhibits linked to the alleged offences from Rashid Kankan, 20; Mutala Rashad, 20; and Haruna Hamdan, alias DJ, 20.
The investigations subsequently led to the recovery of 16 additional motorbikes allegedly stolen from UBIDS, Chakor and Glamon, all within the Wa Municipality, bringing the total number recovered to 17.
The suspects have been arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court and remanded into police custody. They are expected to reappear on August 11, 2026.
Police have appealed to people who have lost motorbikes in the area to visit the Wa District Police Headquarters with valid ownership documents to identify and retrieve their bikes.
The Command also encouraged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support efforts to fight crime in the region.
