Member of Parliament for Agona East, Madam Queenstar Maame Pokua Sawyerr, has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting widows in her constituency, following the recent burial of her late husband, Mr. Bernard Olu Tunde Sawyerr.
At a special gathering held at Agona Namawora on Sunday, August 24, 2025, the MP brought together over 500 widows, providing them with bags of rice and cash donations to ease their burdens.

Addressing the widows, Mad. Sawyerr explained that although she has always been passionate about their welfare, the passing of her husband has given her a deeper understanding of the pain and struggles they endure.
She further announced plans to roll out a loan support scheme for widows between the ages of 18 and 50, to help them start small businesses and cater for their families.

For those above 50 years, she pledged special support packages that will not require repayment, acknowledging their limited capacity to work and earn.
District Chief Executive for Agona East, Oscar Mansah, who joined the event, commended the MP for her continuous dedication to widows, stressing that many still have children to care for and need financial empowerment.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed joy and gratitude to Hon. Sawyerr, describing her as a true mother figure who continues to stand with them in their most difficult times.
