The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has opened investigations into alleged vote buying and vote selling linked to both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in Ayawaso East on February 7, 2026.
In a statement dated Sunday, February 8, the OSP said its probe will also examine “the sources of funding of the alleged corrupt acts” connected to the two internal party elections.
The anti-graft body said it began investigations into the NPP contest after the January 31 primaries, while it moved in during the voting in Ayawaso East, describing its work there as a “real-time investigation.”
The OSP further disclosed that it has opened an additional case involving NDC aspirant Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, following claims that an officer was attacked while attempting to serve him with an investigative directive.
According to the statement, Baba Jamal “allegedly abetted thugs to physically attack an officer of the OSP, who was serving an investigative directive on him.”
The Special Prosecutor said it is now investigating the alleged assault of “an authorised officer of the OSP in the performance of his functions.”
The OSP warned that election-related corruption and violence remain criminal offences under Ghanaian law, stressing that “it is a serious offence to engage in vote buying, vote selling, intimidation, threats of violence, and acts of violence in relation to elections.”
The development comes as President John Dramani Mahama has already recalled Baba Jamal from his position as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, following allegations of voter inducement during the Ayawaso East NDC primaries.
