The Ministry of Health has confirmed that one individual has been arrested in connection with the assault on health staff at Ridge Hospital, while another suspect remains at large.
Tony Goodman, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry, provided details during an interview on Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday August 20.
He revealed that Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh personally responded to the incident, urging swift action and ensuring care for the victims.
“The minister went to Ridge when the incident happened… The minister got there, gave a clear directive, spoke with the Greater Accra Regional Command, made sure that the persons involved get medical care, report to the police station, met management and told them how he is ready to provide additional security and had assured them the gentleman involved would face the full rigor of the law,” Goodman explained.
Adding “On his way, a gentleman came—we cannot say that he knows him. He was later informed by the hospital management that the said gentleman is the perpetrator of the crime. The police arrived, and the guy fled; his accomplice was arrested.”
Minister Akandoh also in a interview on Asempa FM confirmed there has been an arrest and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to justice.
“We as a health ministry- we are investigating the matter. Anyone who will tell you there hasn’t been any arrest then that person is unwilling to help solve the matter,” he stated.Buy vitamins and supplements
Stressing adherence to due process, he added, “Let’s leave the police to do their work. I don’t want to mention names, but whoever had a role to play in that incident, the police must do their work so they are brought to book.
“As a minister responsible for the sector, whatever I have to do [to ensure the right is done will be done]. I took steps and I can confidently tell you that the sector is on top of the issue.”
Minister Akandoh also reported that everything is proceeding according to plan at Ridge Hospital.
“My reports shows the system is running. I have received briefings from the man in charge at the hospital,” he noted.
