The Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed the disbursement of GHS 462 million to over 120,000 nursing trainees across Ghana, fulfilling a key campaign promise made by President John Dramani Mahama.
According to a statement dated Wednesday, July 16, signed by Tony Goodman, the Deputy Director and Spokesperson of MoH, the funds cover a six-month period and are part of broader government efforts to support students in health training institutions.
“The Ministry of Health can confirmed that an amount of GHS 462 Million has been disbursed to support the training allowances of 120,000 nursing students across the country. This payment, which covers a six-month period, forms part of a broader initiative by the government to provide financial support to students in Nurses Training Colleges,” the Ministry stated.
The allowance payments began on Wednesday and will continue through to next Friday.
The Ministry noted that the initiative aligns with national goals to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system by investing in its most critical resource—human capital.
The Ministry extended its gratitude to President Mahama for honoring his promise and acknowledged the collaborative efforts of stakeholders who helped facilitate the timely release and distribution of the funds.
