The Executive Director of the Good Governance Advocacy Group Ghana (GGAGG), Listowell Nana Kusi, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to terminate the contract between the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and KGL Group.
KGL Group, signed a 10-year partnership agreement NLA effective January 2022 which gives KGL Group, the sole license to operate NLA’s 5/90 online game as a collaborator for a 10-year period.
Speaking in an interview on Accra FM, Mr. Kusi alleged that the agreement between the NLA and KGL is tainted with corruption and serves the interest of a few individuals rather than the state.
He accused KGL of effectively privatizing the operations of the NLA, thereby undermining government oversight and reducing state benefits. “We criticized state capture under the previous administration, and now it appears this new administration is following a similar path. If so, we will not hesitate to speak out,” Mr. Kusi stated.
He recalled that the NLA, formerly known as the Department of National Lotteries, came under scrutiny following the appointment of Mr. Ameyaw under President Akufo-Addo’s administration in 2017, which was later marred by allegations of corruption.
Mr. Kusi also mentioned Sammy Awuku’s subsequent appointment, alleging continued irregularities under his leadership.
“NLA is virtually collapsed. KGL is running the show and the government is no longer getting its due. While Ghanaians stake daily, the government doesn’t receive the full amount due it. KGL now controls the NLA and reportedly generates not less than 10 million cedis daily through this setup,” Mr. Kusi claimed.
He urged President Mahama to take immediate action to dissolve the agreement, stressing the need to restore transparency and accountability at the NLA.
