The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced a temporary waiver of the one-month waiting period for new NHIS registrants and for members renewing after a long expiry gap, as part of its 2025 “NHIS Active Month” campaign.
In a public notice, the Authority said the waiver applies throughout November until December 14, 2025, allowing eligible members to access healthcare services immediately after enrollment or renewal.
According to the NHIA, the initiative is designed to improve access and expand active membership.
The notice stated, “The One-Month Waiting Period for newly enrolled NHIS members, and those renewing their NHIS membership after more than three (3) months of expiry, have been waived throughout November until the 14th of December 2025.”
It added that “all eligible members who renew or enrol during the NHIS Active Month will enjoy immediate access to NHIS services, without the usual waiting period.”
The public is encouraged to renew or enroll at NHIS district offices, via the MyNHIS App, or by dialing *929#.
NHIA also urged those with expired membership to take advantage of the window.
“We urge everyone, especially those whose membership has expired for more than three months, to renew promptly and continue enjoying the benefits of quality, affordable healthcare.”
The NHIA advised the public to contact its call centre on 6447 or 054-444-6447 for further assistance.
