Chief Executive Officer Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe has announced that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is redefining its role in Ghana’s healthcare landscape under the John Mahama administration.
In an interview on Channel One TV on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Dr. Bampoe revealed that the National Health Insurance Scheme now has over 20 million active cardholders, covering roughly 60% of the population.
“Finance Minister announced in Parliament that we’re over the 20 million,” he said, highlighting the rapid expansion of enrollment.
Dr. Bampoe emphasized that these are active users: “20 million who have registered this year to use the card… which means it’s possible that more people possess the card.”
The NHIA plans to increase card usage further while ensuring nationwide accessibility, combining financial protection with comprehensive service coverage for all Ghanaians.
