NHIA disburses additional GH₵259m in claims within 21 days

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed an additional GHS259,546,601.77 in claims to accredited healthcare providers across Ghana, reinforcing its commitment to sustaining the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The payment, authorized by NHIA Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe in May 2025, covered public, private, mission, and quasi-public health facilities.

NHIA, in a statement on Wednesday, may 21. confirmed that out of the total amount, GH₵112,607,239.74, representing 43%, was paid to public facilities, while private facilities received GH₵104,643,070.75, representing 40 percent.

A part of the statement noted, “The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has paid an additional Two Hundred and Fifty-Nine Million, Five Hundred and Forty-Six Thousand, Six
Hundred and One Cedis, Seventy-Seven Pesewas (GHS259,546,601.77) to deserving credentialed healthcare providers. The Chief Executive, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, sanctioned the payments
to public, private, mission, and quasi-public facilities in May 2025. GHS112,607,239.74, representing 43 percent, was paid to public facilities, while private facilities received GHS104,643,070.75, signifying 40 percent. The mission facilities category received GHS40,015,892.20, which indicates 15 percent, and the Quasi-public facilities were paid GHS2,280,399.08, which implies 1 percent.”

The Authority stated that this payment reflects its unwavering commitment to ensuring that healthcare providers are well-resourced and motivated to deliver quality care to NHIS members.

It further emphasized its focus on improving operational efficiency, enhancing provider relations, and maintaining transparency and accountability in all dealings.

The NHIA also expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their continued support and reassured the public of its dedication to providing timely financial access to quality healthcare for all residents of Ghana.
