The United Kingdom and Ireland Chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended warm congratulations to Her Excellency Sabah Zita Benson on her appointment as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
In a statement signed by Chapter Deputy Secretary Isabella Peace Diateson, the NDC-UK/Ireland described the appointment as a historic milestone, applauding President John Dramani Mahama for nominating the first woman to hold this diplomatic post.
“Your elevation to this esteemed role is not only a testament to your unwavering commitment to public service, but also a proud moment for all Ghanaians, particularly women and young people who see in you a beacon of inspiration and possibility,” the statement said.
The party praised Mrs. Benson’s extensive background in public service, including her tenure as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic and as a former Minister for Information and Tourism.
Her previous roles, they noted, reflect a consistent commitment to advancing national development and the values of the NDC.
The Chapter expressed optimism that her leadership will strengthen ties between the Ghana High Commission and the Ghanaian diaspora in the UK and Ireland, while reaffirming its readiness to support her tenure.
“As you assume this vital role, we look forward to a strengthened relationship between the High Commission and the Ghanaian diaspora community in the UK and Ireland,” the statement concluded.
H.E. Zita Benson’s appointment was confirmed in May 2025 by President Mahama.
A seasoned lawyer and politician, she holds degrees from KNUST and the University of Ghana and has served in various high-level governmental roles.
