Reliable sources within the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) indicate that Nurein Shaibu Migyimah, the suspended Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Assin Central, is likely to be reinstated today. This development follows the issuance of an unlawful suspension letter by the Central Regional Secretary, Nii Comey Adams, without the approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
A key member of the NEC, speaking on the condition of anonymity, criticized the Central Regional Executives for acting independently, bypassing the established party protocols. “I was totally shocked to see that letter on social media. NDC is a party governed by laws and structures. Those executives lack emotional intelligence, and if we are not careful, the current regional chairman could lead us into serious trouble. Ever since he became Regional Chairman, the Central Region has witnessed a series of avoidable controversies,” the NEC member lamented.
Another senior female executive, who also preferred to remain anonymous, expressed similar concerns. She pointed out that Richard Kofi Asiedu’s tenure as Regional Chairman has been fraught with numerous complaints and problems. “Remember how Kwesi Dawood was suspended. It is ridiculous to suspend a parliamentary candidate without national approval just five months before a crucial election,” she said.
The Central Regional Executives are expected to appear before the National Executive Committee today to answer questions regarding the suspension. There is a strong indication that the Central Regional NDC could face significant embarrassment due to this incident.
