The Dagbon Traditional Council has announced that the third-day Islamic prayers for the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
According to the Council, the prayers are scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m., with members of the public invited to join the royal family and the people of Dagbon in offering prayers for the departed King.
The announcement comes days after the late monarch was laid to rest in the early hours of Monday, July 13, within the sacred grounds of the Gbewaa Palace in accordance with Dagbon customs and Islamic traditions.
Yaa-Naa Abukari II, who served as President of the Dagbon Traditional Council and the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026, bringing to an end a reign widely regarded as one of peace, reconciliation and development.
In a statement, the Dagbon Traditional Council described the late King as a unifying figure whose leadership strengthened harmony and stability across the kingdom while advancing the welfare of his people.
The Council further appealed to residents of Dagbon and the general public to honour the late monarch’s legacy by maintaining peace, unity and calm throughout the mourning period.
It added that details of the final funeral rites and other related arrangements would be communicated in due course in accordance with royal protocol and the customs and traditions of Dagbon.
