Former Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team and New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Officer hopeful, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has been granted bail in the sum of GHS50 million with three sureties by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Under the bail conditions, two of the three sureties are required to be justified.
However, counsel for Mr. Aboagye, Samuel Atta Akyea, says meeting the conditions immediately may prove difficult.
Speaking to the media, the former Abuakwa South MP noted that although his client had been granted bail, fulfilling the requirements, particularly the justification of two sureties, was unlikely to be completed by Monday night.
According to him, the legal team would work to satisfy the conditions as soon as possible to secure Mr. Aboagye’s release.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye was arrested by EOCO in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), where he previously served as Executive Secretary.
EOCO says the investigations relate to the alleged misappropriation, diversion and theft of public funds estimated at about GHS55 million.
The anti-graft agency has indicated that Mr. Aboagye and other suspects are being investigated for offences including conspiracy to steal, stealing, using public office for profit, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering and defrauding by false pretences.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
