Taking proactive action to Combat environmental degradation and promote sustainable livelihoods, a team from the National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme (NAELP), led by its National Coordinator, Ing. Frank Asare, visited several communities in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
The visit, which covered the Sendu, Sendu Fia Solo, Nkroful, and Anwia communities, aimed to assess the severe impacts of illegal mining (galamsey) activities and to engage directly with residents on alternative employment opportunities.
As part of the initiative, the team organized community engagement sessions with local authorities, traditional leaders, youth groups, and other key stakeholders. These discussions gave residents an important platform to share their experiences, voice their challenges, and contribute ideas for sustainable development in their communities.
According to NAELP, the feedback received during these engagements will be crucial in shaping customized land reclamation efforts and designing livelihood initiatives that meet the specific needs of affected areas.
This milestone visit reflects the government’s strong commitment, championed by the Honourable Minister Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, to restore Ghana’s environment, empower communities, and build a greener, more resilient economy.
“Together, we will heal our lands and build a brighter future for generations to come,” NAELP emphasized.
