In celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024, Hon. Joycelyn Tetteh, the NDC MP for North Dayi, took significant steps to promote menstrual health and hygiene among young female students. The event, held at Anfoe RC Park, saw participation from Junior High Schools across 36 different institutions.
Hon. Tetteh distributed sanitary pads and exercise books to the students, aiming to address both their educational and health needs. To further educate the girls on menstrual health, she enlisted the help of nurses and midwives. These healthcare professionals conducted informative sessions and will continue to serve as menstrual health ambassadors in their respective schools.
In her speech, Hon. Tetteh emphasized the importance of these ambassadorial roles and assured the students of regular support. She also urged parents to prioritize their daughters’ menstrual hygiene and advised the girls to focus on their studies and avoid relationships with adolescent boys to help prevent teenage pregnancy.
The event was attended by Hon. Tetteh’s husband, the Volta Regional Women’s Organizer, constituency executives, and several NDC supporters, highlighting the community’s collective effort to improve menstrual health education and support for young women.
