The Minority in Parliament has extended humanitarian support to displaced Ghanaians in Côte d’Ivoire, donating CFA 2 million to refugees in Vonkoro who fled the recent Gbinyiri clashes in the Savannah Region.
Led by Nana Asafo-Adjei-Ayeh, a four-member delegation visited the refugees to express solidarity and offer relief.
“We are here on behalf of the Minority in Parliament and Ghanaians in their entirety to empathize with you for the ordeal you’re all going through as a result of this conflict. We are making this donation to you to help alleviate some of the challenges you’re facing. It is our hope that sooner than later, a lasting resolution will be reached for all of you to return home. Do accept this cash donation of CFA2 Million from us and use it to support yourselves” Asafo-Adjei said while presenting the donation.
Refugee leader Kawuro Kwasi David, who also serves as Assemblyman for Bale Electoral Area in Bole, received the support on behalf of the community, expressing gratitude and hope that the intervention of the Minority would compel government action.
The Gbinyiri violence has left more than 40 people dead and displaced over 40,000, with an estimated 13,000 seeking refuge across the border in Côte d’Ivoire.
