The Minority in Parliament is demanding that the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, account for revenues accrued from the GH¢10,000 daily fine imposed on MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv.
The sanction, which took effect on August 15, 2025, followed DStv’s failure to provide detailed pricing information requested by the National Communications Authority under the Electronic Communications Act.
In a statement issued on October 1, the Minority members on the Parliamentary Committee on Communications accused the Minister of inconsistency, recalling his earlier insistence on a mandatory 30% reduction in subscription prices rather than service upgrades.
They argued that his current stance raises questions about accountability.
They also stressed that Ghanaians deserve to know how much government has so far collected from the fines and how the funds are being used.
“The minister should inform every Ghanaian of his reason for changing his initial stance on not accepting any upgrade but price reduction of not less than 30%. The minister should account for the amount collected by the government from the GH¢10,000 imposed on DSTV since its inception.
We reiterate that the minority members on the committee are dedicated professionals who take their responsibilities seriously and are always available for scheduled meetings.”
