Investigations are underway following alleged unprofessional conduct and exploitation of patients at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, widely known as Ridge Hospital.
The Ministry of Health, in a statement, said it has taken note of a report by The Fourth Estate media house that highlighted practices placing undue financial and administrative burdens on patients.
The statement, signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions and Spokesperson for the Ministry, said, “We are, however, deeply concerned and surprised by some of the revelations contained in the report. In view of this, the Ministry considers the issues raised as serious and deserving of thorough examination.”
The Ministry added that an investigative committee is being constituted to review the claims and is expected to submit its report within fourteen (14) working days.
Goodman further emphasized the importance of cooperation, stating, “The Ministry expects the full cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, including The Fourth Estate, to help unravel the facts and provide additional details necessary to ensure accountability and improve service delivery within our health system.”
The Ministry also expressed sympathy for patients and their relatives, reaffirming the government’s commitment to reducing the stress and financial burden associated with accessing healthcare services across the country.
