The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) says it is on track to deliver stronger results in 2026 following significant gains recorded in the previous year, driven largely by increased mineral royalty inflows.

Chief Executive Officer of the fund, Justina Nelson, said improved strategies implemented in 2025 have positioned MIIF for further growth.

She noted that royalties rose from GH¢3.91 billion in 2024 to GH¢5.43 billion in 2025, reflecting increased activity and enhanced monitoring within the sector.

Speaking at a forum with media editors, Nelson said the fund is focused on building stronger relationships with the press while also addressing public misconceptions about its operations.

She also emphasized the need for accurate reporting, stating that the engagement would help clarify issues surrounding the fund’s governing laws and investment mandate.

“There is a need to use the opportunity to clarify issues… and correct some misconceptions about mineral royalties,” she said.

The forum, the first of its kind, also examined MIIF’s legal framework, including its establishing laws and amendments, as well as its medium-term strategic plans.

Officials at the fund explained that part of the engagement was to promote transparency and improve understanding of how mineral revenues are managed.

Director of Corporate Affairs, Charles Benoni Okine, encouraged journalists to verify information with the fund before publishing, noting that such engagements would help shed light on aspects of MIIF’s work that are often misunderstood.

On the technical side, officials reported growth in royalties from manganese and quarry operations, attributing the increase to improved monitoring systems.

The fund reiterated its core mandate as a sovereign institution tasked with maximizing Ghana’s mineral wealth while ensuring accountability and long-term financial stability.

MIIF says it will continue to expand its investments and strengthen oversight in the mining sector as it works toward sustained economic impact.
