Prime Minister Terrance Michael Drew of Saint Kitts and Nevis has disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama’s remarks at the United Nations General Assembly played a decisive role in shaping his decision to travel to Ghana.
Speaking during a meeting at the Jubilee House, Dr. Drew said he was deeply moved by the President’s presentation on the global stage, describing it as one that resonated beyond the Assembly Hall.

“And Mr. President, one of the things that really stuck out to me was last UN General Assembly. There are a lot of speeches given, but I particularly listened to your speech, and your speech inspired me,” he told President Mahama, adding that he subsequently instructed his team to arrange a meeting.

He noted that the visit felt like “coming back home,” underscoring the historical and cultural bonds between the Caribbean nation and Ghana.
Dr. Drew is in Ghana for a five-day official visit from March 3 to March 7, 2026. He will participate in Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebrations and hold bilateral talks aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation.

As part of his programme, the Prime Minister will meet academic leaders at the University of Ghana and tour significant heritage sites, including the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the W. E. B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture, and the Cape Coast Castle.
The visit reflects renewed efforts by both countries to deepen cooperation in areas such as education, trade, health, and cultural exchange.
