President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Ministry of Finance to release GH¢1 billion to settle long-standing debts owed to contractors by the state since 2017.
The directive was made during a sod-cutting ceremony for the Sunyani–Atronie–Acherensua Road Project in the Bono Region on Sunday, December 21, under the government’s Big Push programme.
Addressing contractors, President Mahama urged prompt submission of certificates to ensure timely payment, emphasizing that delays would only occur if documentation is not provided.
He also noted that audits are ongoing, with payments focused on certified works, particularly those from projects inherited from the previous administration.
“All contractors will receive their dues before Christmas, and families of deceased contractors will also be catered for,” the President said.
The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Badu II, welcomed the project and called for strict supervision to ensure high-quality construction.
President Mahama described the Sunyani–Atronie–Acherensua road as a key infrastructure investment for the Bono Region and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to clearing contractor arrears and reviving stalled projects nationwide.
