President John Dramani Mahama has terminated all government contracts with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), following the conclusion of a detailed investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
This was contained in a letter addressed to Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson from the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
According to the letter, “Following the conclusion of the investigation conducted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) into the contracts awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), I have been directed by His Excellency, the President of the Republic, to request that you take immediate steps to terminate all existing SML-related contracts forthwith.”
The directive forms part of the government’s commitment to accountability and transparency in the management of public funds. The Finance Ministry has been tasked with ensuring the terminations are carried out in full compliance with legal and financial procedures.
The OSP probe, led by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, examined revenue assurance contracts between SML, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and the Ministry of Finance.
The review revealed that over GH₵1.4 billion had been disbursed to SML without proper monitoring. Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and other top officials were implicated in the dealings, which drew public scrutiny for being single-sourced and lacking oversight.
President Mahama’s directive effectively ends one of the most controversial government contracts in recent memory, reinforcing his administration’s stance on financial accountability and responsible use of public resources.
