Former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign team has clarified recent news reports suggesting that he promised to stabilise the Ghana Cedi within 100 days of assuming office.
In a statement, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide and Spokesperson for the Mahama 2024 Campaign, clarified that Mahama did not promise to stabilise the struggling Ghana Cedi in 100 days. Instead, he outlined a clear and comprehensive plan to address the economic challenges facing the country, providing a sense of direction and reassurance.
During the 8th Ghana CEO Summit, Mahama stated that the number one priority of his administration would be to stabilise the economy and restore a stable currency. He also mentioned launching an urgent economic recovery and fiscal consolidation plan following a national economic dialogue to be held within the first hundred days of assuming office.
Mahama emphasised the need for fiscal discipline and responsible economic management to achieve currency stability. He also highlighted measures such as cutting government expenditures, preventing waste and corruption, and expanding the tax net to boost revenues.
The campaign reiterated its commitment to transparent and responsible communication with the Ghanaian people, aiming to foster a sense of trust and respect. It urged the media to accurately represent Mahama’s statements in their reporting, ensuring that the public is well-informed.
The clarification from the Mahama 2024 Campaign comes after recent news publications quoted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer as promising to stabilise the Ghana Cedi in 100 days. The campaign seeks to address any misinformation and ensure that Mahama’s plans for the country are accurately communicated to the public.
