A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for incest and threat of death after sexually abusing his 17-year-old biological daughter in Lawra in the Upper West Region.
According to the Upper West Regional Police Command, the convict, Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu, was sentenced by the Lawra Circuit Court following investigations and prosecution by the Lawra District Police.
Police said investigations established that Ti-Zaaekuu had sexually abused his daughter, a Junior High School student, over an extended period and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
“The conviction follows investigation and prosecution by the Lawra District Police, upon a complaint, which established that the convict has sexually abused his 17-year biological daughter, JHS student, over an extended period amid threats of death if she ever disclosed his escapades to anyone,” the police said in a statement dated July 26, 2026.
On Friday, July 24, 2026, the Lawra Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, found Ti-Zaaekuu guilty of incest and threat of death after a full trial.
“The Court sentenced the convict to twenty (20) years imprisonment for incest and ten (10) years imprisonment for threat of death, both sentences to run concurrently In Hard Labour,” the statement said.
The court also directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor.
The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the investigators and prosecutor for their work on the case.
“The Upper West Regional Police Command commends the professionalism of the investigators and prosecutor whose efforts led to the successful conviction,” the statement said.
It also encouraged members of the public to promptly report all forms of sexual and domestic abuse to the police for appropriate action.
