Two people have died, while several others have sustained various injuries following a fatal road accident on the Fodoa–Nadieso stretch of the Kumasi Highway in the Kwahu West municipality of the Eastern Region.

The accident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, involved a cargo vehicle and a long truck transporting bottled water.

The Nkawkaw Municipal Fire Commander, Divisional Officer Grade Two (DO II) Samuel Mante, said preliminary assessments suggest that the cargo vehicle, with registration number WR 644-N, developed a mechanical fault, resulting in a collision with the long truck, registered as ER 101-12.

The force of the impact claimed the lives of two occupants of the vehicles at the scene, while several others suffered various degrees of injuries.

The injured victims were rescued and transported to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw, where they are currently receiving medical attention.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, alongside other security agencies, responded swiftly to the incident to rescue trapped victims, manage the emergency situation and clear the highway to restore normal traffic flow.

Speaking after the incident, DO II Samuel Mante urged motorists to prioritise road safety and take precautionary measures whenever vehicles develop faults on the highway.

He advised drivers to immediately place reflective warning triangles at the appropriate distance behind faulty vehicles to alert approaching motorists and prevent further accidents.

The Municipal Fire Commander also encouraged vehicle owners to conduct regular maintenance checks and urged drivers to remain cautious and vigilant on the roads to reduce avoidable crashes.
