Some parts of Kumasi and nearby communities are expected to experience a temporary power outage on Saturday, December 21, 2025, as engineers work to connect a new power generation plant to the national grid.
The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) said the interruption is linked to the commissioning of the AKSA Anwomaso Generating Plant, a project expected to significantly improve electricity supply and reliability in the Ashanti Region once fully operational.
According to GRIDCo, the exercise involves integrating the new plant into the 330kV Takoradi–Thermal–Anwomaso transmission line, a process that requires shutting down supply to some areas for about three hours to ensure safety.
Power to all affected areas is expected to be fully restored by 11:00 p.m. the same day. GRIDCo apologised for the inconvenience and assured residents that the temporary disruption is necessary to strengthen the stability of the power system in Kumasi and its environs.
