Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has officially inaugurated Ghana’s 2026 World Cup Oversight Committee, tasking the 11-member team with ensuring disciplined and effective preparation for the Black Stars’ upcoming campaign.
Speaking at Jubilee House on Wednesday, Debrah emphasized that the committee’s work should go beyond the 90 minutes on the pitch.
“This oversight committee must lead with accountability, speed, and national consciousness,” he said, urging members to act with clarity, urgency, and integrity in all their efforts.
Ghana qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 1–0 victory over Comoros in October, marking the nation’s fifth appearance since 2006. The government has set aside GH¢150 million to support the team’s participation.
The committee includes key figures from the presidency, sports, finance, foreign affairs, youth, tourism, security, the Ghana Football Association, and former Black Stars captain Abedi Pele, with one position yet to be filled.
Debrah stressed the need for long-term planning, calling on the committee to use the World Cup as a springboard for national growth and development in the years ahead.
The committee comprises representatives from key ministries and organizations, including:
- Office of the President – Stan Xoese Dogbe
- Sports and Recreation – Hon. Kofi Adams
- Foreign Affairs – Samuel O. Ablakwa
- Youth Development – George Opare
- Tourism and Culture – Yusif Jajah (Deputy Minister)
- Finance Ministry – Ampem Nyarkoh (Deputy Minister)
- Ghana Football Association – Kurt Okraku (Chairman)
- Deputy National Security Coordinator – Elizabeth Yankah
- Former Footballer – Abedi Pele
- Sports Ministry – Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah (Chief Director)
