Supreme Court nominee, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, has called for judges to be subjected to the same asset declaration requirements as other public officials legally do.
During his vetting on Monday, June 16, 2025, Justice Dzamefe stressed that judicial officers, as government appointees, should not be exempt from transparency and accountability standards.
“If the law says all government appointees should declare their assets, and judges are government appointees, why not? They have to declare their assets,” he stated.
His comments come amid renewed emphasis by President John Dramani Mahama on ethics in public office.
The President recently cautioned that political appointees who fail to meet the May 7, 2025, deadline for asset declaration would be dismissed.
Justice Dzamefe believes this will bolster public confidence in the institution by preventing potential conflicts of interest.
He maintained that upholding integrity in the judiciary is crucial, and asset declaration is a vital tool in that process.
