The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced plans to review the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Act as part of government’s efforts to create a more attractive investment environment in Ghana’s petroleum sector.

According to Dr Jinapor, the review forms part of broader measures to address the fiscal and regulatory framework governing the sector while protecting Ghana’s national interests.

The Minister made the announcement when he joined the management, staff and stakeholders of GNPC for the corporation’s 3rd Annual General Meeting.

He commended the Board, management and staff of GNPC for their performance in 2025 and urged them to build on the progress recorded by demonstrating decisive leadership, increasing investment and improving performance in 2026.

Dr Jinapor said the review of the GNPC Act would seek to ensure that the country’s legal and institutional framework adequately supports investment, efficiency, growth and value creation for Ghanaians.

He noted that Ghana’s oil and gas sector was showing signs of renewed growth in 2026, describing the development as a welcome reversal of the decline in production recorded since 2019.

The Minister, however, called on industry players to sustain the momentum by accelerating field development, appraisal and exploration activities.

He also urged stakeholders to work towards resolving infrastructure bottlenecks and creating a more predictable and competitive investment environment capable of attracting long-term capital into the sector.

Dr Jinapor reaffirmed the Energy Ministry’s commitment to supporting GNPC, the Petroleum Commission and industry operators in efforts to unlock the full potential of Ghana’s petroleum resources.

He said stronger collaboration among government institutions and industry players would be essential to increasing production, attracting investment and ensuring that Ghana derives greater value from its petroleum resources.

The government’s planned reforms are expected to form part of wider efforts to revitalise the petroleum sector, improve investor confidence and maximise the sector’s contribution to Ghana’s economic development.
