The Interior Ministry has officially set aside Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays across Ghana in recognition of Good Friday and Easter Monday.
The announcement forms part of the government’s annual observance of key Christian festivals, which are recognised as statutory holidays to reflect the country’s strong religious and cultural traditions.
Good Friday marks the solemn remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, while Easter Monday follows the celebration of His resurrection, a period widely observed by Christians with church services, reflection, and family gatherings.
In a statement issued in Accra, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, indicated that the days should be observed nationwide in line with statutory provisions governing public holidays.
The declaration is expected to affect both public and private sector operations, with many institutions closing or operating on limited schedules during the period as citizens participate in religious and social activities.
Easter remains one of the busiest holiday seasons in Ghana, often marked by increased travel, heightened economic activity in some sectors, and a surge in church attendance across the country.
The government has encouraged citizens to observe the holidays peacefully and safely, while maintaining public order during the festive period.
