Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has led a high-level government delegation to the Overlord of the Gonjaland Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, as part of renewed efforts to end violent clashes at Gbiniyiri in the Savannah Region.
The visit, which followed a presidential directive after a briefing from the National Security Coordinator, was aimed at finding lasting solutions to the recurring violence in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and Bole Districts.
Held behind closed doors at the Yagbonwura’s palace, the discussions focused on measures to restore calm after days of violence that claimed lives, destroyed property, and forced thousands of residents to flee into nearby communities and across the border into Côte d’Ivoire.
Speaking after the meeting, the Interior Minister underscored the government’s commitment to peace but appealed for the cooperation of all stakeholders.
“We want to appeal to all factions to understand that nothing can compare to peace. Once we agree to sit down and start talking, these tensions will be a thing of the past,” he stated.
He further disclosed that additional security personnel have been deployed, with joint patrols by the police, military, and immigration officers, particularly along Ghana’s northern borders with Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire.
Government and security authorities expressed optimism that collaboration with traditional leaders will lay the foundation for sustainable peace in Gbiniyiri and surrounding areas.
