The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has announced that Monday, September 22, 2025, will be observed as a statutory public holiday across Ghana in celebration of Founder’s Day.
The announcement comes after the original date, Sunday, September 21, coincided with the weekend.
A statement signed by the Ministry explained that President John Mahama, by Executive Instrument and in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), has officially designated the following Monday as an additional public holiday.
The Ministry urged the public to observe the day nationwide, highlighting its significance in honoring Ghana’s founders.
The Ministry’s statement read in part: “Sunday, 21st September 2025, marks Founder’s Day, which is a Statutory Public Holiday. However, in view of the fact that 21st September 2025 falls on a Sunday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has, by Executive Instrument, declared Monday, 22nd September 2025, as an additional public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
