The Ghana Police Service has firmly dismissed widespread social media rumours suggesting that Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has passed away, describing the claims as entirely fabricated and malicious.
The speculation, which began circulating alleged that the IGP had suddenly died. The rumour spread rapidly, prompting concern among officers and members of the public before the Police Service issued an official response.
In an official statement, the Ghana police assured the nation that the IGP is “alive, well, and actively performing his duties.”
The service confirmed that IGP Yohuno has been engaged in scheduled meetings and operational briefings throughout the week.
The Police Service urged the public to disregard the false reports and called on individuals sharing the rumour to desist immediately.
The statement also warned that those responsible for originating or amplifying such misinformation will face the law, stressing that creating panic through disinformation is a criminal offense.
The Police further encouraged the public to rely on official communication channels for verified information and avoid contributing to the spread of harmful falsehoods.
