The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has deployed a special security team to Gbenyiri in the Savannah Region following violent clashes between the Brifo and Fulani communities that left several people dead and properties destroyed.
The unit, made up of intelligence officers and investigators, is working closely with the Savannah Regional Police Command to restore order, investigate the incidents, and ensure that those responsible face justice.
Authorities report that calm has largely returned to the town, though the police continue to maintain a strong presence to prevent further reprisals. Local residents have welcomed the deployment, expressing relief that security forces are actively addressing the tensions.
The recent attacks are part of an ongoing cycle of violence between the Brifo and Fulani communities, which has included previous killings and retaliatory incidents over land and grazing disputes.
The IGP’s intervention aims to break this cycle and provide long-term security for the affected populations.
ASP Richard Osei Yaw, Staff Officer at the Savannah Regional Police Headquarters, reassured the public that “efforts are ongoing to get those behind the attacks arrested and brought to justice.”
