Interior Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has shared a poignant detail about the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who died in the August 6, 2025, military helicopter crash.
According to Muntaka, Dr. Omane Boamah had long avoided helicopter travel, expressing discomfort with the aircraft.
However, in an interview with Joy FM, Mr. Muntaka reveals on the day of the accident, Dr. Boamah agreed to board one for the very first time.
“But because of the fight against galamsey, he was ready to board the helicopter,” Muntaka said.
“Despite all his reservations, despite the fact that he had never used it before, the first time he did, he never returned,” Muntaka lamented.
The crash, which occurred in the Eastern Region, claimed the lives of eight people, including Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, and other high-profile figures.
The revelation adds a deeply personal layer to the national tragedy, as Ghanaians continue to mourn and await the outcome of investigations into the deadly incident.
