The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has warned the government to immediately implement their conditions of service by the end of July 2025 or risk facing nationwide industrial action.
This comes after a highly anticipated meeting with the government and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, scheduled for Thursday, June 26, was postponed.
The meeting was expected to resolve longstanding concerns regarding nurses’ and midwives’ conditions of service.
At a press conference in Accra on Thursday, June 26, GRNMA President, Perpetual Ofori Ampofo, expressed disappointment over the postponement, describing it as a setback that undermines trust.
The meeting, which was postponed to July 10, reportedly could not take place due to the absence of the Ministers for Health and Finance, who are currently out of the country.
Despite the setback, Madam Ampofo noted that the Association is willing to give the committee the benefit of the doubt but warned that their patience is running thin.
“We demand implementation of the four agreed items not later than July 2025. This is non-negotiable and we shall advise ourselves if any attempt is made to further delay the implementation,” she declared.
The GRNMA insists it remains committed to dialogue but stressed that its members would not hesitate to resort to industrial action if the government fails to honour its commitments.
Nurses and midwives across the country have been pushing for improved conditions of service, citing the critical role they play in Ghana’s healthcare system and the need for their welfare to be prioritised.
