The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched a tax education outreach at Ashaiman Market, aimed at educating traders and the public on the new Modified Taxation Scheme and promoting voluntary tax compliance.

The programme, held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 also included a free health screening for market participants.

Speaking at the event, Florence Asante, Deputy Commissioner of Communication and Public Affairs at the GRA, explained that the initiative seeks to simplify tax payment and make it more accessible for everyone.

“This Modified Taxation Scheme is required to make taxation simple, very easy, very efficient for everybody who is required to pay taxes,” she said.

“It is simplified in the sense that you can sit anywhere, it is easier for you to sit in your shop where you are doing your business, to be able to just dial a short code, star 880 hash, and be able to access and pay your taxes very well.”

Mrs. Asante emphasized the importance of paying taxes in supporting national development, highlighting contributions toward infrastructure, education, and public amenities.

“As a responsible citizen, you have contributed, you have a say in national affairs. You are proudly saying that, I have contributed my small bit and built Ghana,” she said.

To assist taxpayers with questions or challenges, Asante shared a toll-free number for support: 0800-900-110, available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

She also noted that this outreach forms part of the three-year Sustained National Tax Education Program, which aims to provide tax information across all regions of Ghana, targeting markets, schools, and communities.

The event also featured a free health screening for traders and residents, offering basic medical checks as part of the GRA’s community engagement efforts.

The next market outreach is scheduled for Thursday, December 11, at Lapaz Market, continuing the nationwide effort to promote tax awareness and compliance.
