Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced that road infrastructure projects under the government’s ambitious Big Push Agenda will commence this month.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the Adaklu MP revealed that key ongoing projects, including the Ofankor-Nsawam road, have now been incorporated into the Big Push framework to ensure dedicated funding and swift execution.

He tasked Maripoma Construction, the contractor working on the Ofankor-Nsawam stretch, to take immediate steps to minimise the inconvenience to residents and commuters.

This includes carrying out necessary demolitions to pave the way for timely project completion.

“Since we took over and then noticed that many of these big budget projects that the previous government started had no dedicated source of funding, the president has directed that we take over some of those projects as additional big push projects so that we can prioritize payment for them,” Mr. Agbodza explained.

He cited the Ofankor project, estimated at nearly \$350 million, of which only half has been paid. He stressed that without reclassifying such projects under the Big Push, completion would be challenging.

“For instance, the Ofankor preoject project is approaching $350 million, and of which just about half of that has been paid. If we don’t prioritize that under the big push, it will be difficult to complete. We are in the process of seeking the relevant permissions as defined in the Public Financial Management Act to be able to commence those works starting this month,” he added.

The Big Push Agenda, a flagship infrastructure initiative by the Mahama administration, is designed to accelerate road development and improve nationwide connectivity.
