Ghana is set to recruit 6,100 new teachers nationwide as part of efforts to strengthen the education sector, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has confirmed.
The decision, approved by Cabinet, forms part of the 2026 budget plan.
The move comes after demonstrations by 2023 teacher trainees seeking postings and salary validation.
Addressing the press, the Minister assured that the 2023 cohort has already been fully captured in the recruitment exercise.
“Cabinet gave approval for us to recruit some 6,100 more teachers and therefore that category of teachers who belong to the 2023 cohort are adequately captured,” he said, urging the trainees to cooperate with the Ghana Education Service to complete their validation and payment process.
Mr. Iddrisu also highlighted budget allocations for the sector, noting that besides 39.23 billion cedis for general education, 9.9 billion has been earmarked for the Ghana Education Fund, with an additional 42 billion set aside for Free SHS and TVET infrastructure and services.
