Gov’t to allocate GH¢25m to each District Assembly in 2025 – Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that all District Assemblies across Ghana will each receive not less than GH¢25 million in 2025, as part of government’s renewed push to strengthen local governance and drive development at the grassroots.

Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, June 3, Dr. Forson outlined the government’s commitment to decentralization through increased financial support to district-level administrations.

The Minister described the allocation as a strategic investment in inclusive development, adding that decentralization remains a cornerstone of the government’s economic transformation agenda.

He revealed that out of a projected GH¢7.57 billion allocation to local authorities next year while GH¢6.1 billion has been earmarked specifically for direct disbursement to District Assemblies.

Dr. Forson assured lawmakers that the funds will not only be released but also monitored to ensure alignment with national development goals.

“Government is guaranteeing that approximately GH¢6.1 billion of the GH¢7.57 billion earmarked for 2025 will be disbursed directly to the local assemblies to spur local economic activities at the district level,” he said.

He added, “Mr. Speaker, in view of that, every District Assembly will receive a minimum of GH¢25 million this year [2025]. Our resources extend beyond mere release of funds. We have taken decisive steps to ensure that these resources are utilised in line with the government’s economic objectives.”
