The Ministry of Education has approved 25 private senior high schools (SHSs) to be included in the 2025 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) under the Free SHS programme.

This marks the first time private SHSs are participating in the national placement process, giving candidates expanded options for enrollment.

This inclusion, announced by the Ministry of Education, aims to expand access to second-cycle education and ease congestion in public SHSs.

The approved schools, categorized under a newly introduced Category E, are all co-educational day schools located across Ghana’s 16 regions.

These institutions offer a variety of programmes, including General Arts, General Science, Business, Visual Arts, Technical, Home Economics, and Agriculture.

As a result of the update, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has extended the deadline for the ongoing school selection process to Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

A statement signed by the Ministry noted that the extension is to allow candidates ample time to review and revise their choices in light of the new options.

The 25 private SHSs that have been approved for the 2025/2026 academic year include:

Ashanti Region

  • Cosmos Senior High School, Ejura
  • Joy Standard College, Kumasi
  • Elite College, Kumasi

Ahafo Region

  • Ken Hammer Senior High Technical School, Goaso

Bono East Region

  • Mint Senior High School, Yeji

Central Region

  • St. Luke SHS, Mankessim
  • St. Richard’s SHS, Assin Foso
  • Mount Hebron College, Dunkwa-On-Offin
  • Domaa College, Ekumfi Swedru
  • Samtet Oxford SHS, Atachem
  • Samme SHS (New Site), Mankessim

Eastern Region

  • Modern SHS, Kpong
  • King David Community College, Kpong
  • Somanya SHTS, Somanya

Greater Accra Region

  • Ideal College, East Legon
  • Cambridge SHTS, Madina Estate
  • City Business SHS, Mateheko
  • Daceland SHS, Adentan
  • Jireh SHS, Teshie

Northern Region

  • Asini Memorial SHS, Sagnarigu

Upper East Region

  • Rugari College, Bongo
  • Reputable SHS, Wiaga

Volta Region

  • Wallahs Academy SHS, Ho

Western Region

  • Fame SHS, Shama

Western North Region

  • Otou Memorial SHS, Bibiani

The Ministry emphasized that this strategic move will not only expand opportunities for BECE graduates but also support private sector participation in national education development.
