The government has announced that it has cleared inherited arrears in capitation grants owed schools and is taking steps to ensure more regular disbursement of funds to improve the delivery of basic education.
The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, disclosed this at the 5th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) held in Koforidua on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Speaking on behalf of the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, Dr. Apaak said discussions have also commenced to review the capitation grant to reflect current economic conditions and the changing needs of schools.
“We have cleared the inherited capitation grant arrears and are working to ensure more regular disbursement. Discussions have also begun on reviewing the grant to align it with current economic realities,” he said.
He explained that the move forms part of broader efforts to address funding challenges affecting schools and create a more supportive environment for teaching and learning.
