The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has donated GH¢2 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, to strengthen the country’s response to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and improve access to quality healthcare.
At a brief ceremony, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Richard Nunekpeku, highlighted the institution’s confidence in the initiative and its leadership.
He explained that GoldBod was motivated by the vision of President John Dramani Mahama and the administrators of MahamaCares to invest in long-term healthcare solutions.

“We are convinced of the foresight behind MahamaCares and the capacity of its administrators to deliver on its mission and to use the resources effectively in furtherance of this noble vision, the reason why we are making this donation,” he said.
Mr. Nunekpeku further encouraged other public and private institutions to support MahamaCares, stressing that tackling chronic diseases required collective national effort.

Receiving the donation, the Fund’s Administrator, Obuobia Darko Opoku, revealed that a recent needs assessment had exposed critical shortages of medical equipment in several major facilities in Accra. She pledged that the donation would go directly into bridging those gaps.
“Our focus is to equip health institutions with the tools needed to provide quality care for patients battling non-communicable diseases,” she assured.

The GH¢2 million support from GoldBod, according to the Fund, is expected to make an immediate impact on service delivery.

Beyond its financial value, the gesture symbolizes a growing recognition that strengthening healthcare infrastructure is a shared responsibility among state bodies, corporate institutions, and civil society.
