The Director of Legal Affairs for the governing National Democratic Congress(NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has weighed into the controversy surrounding the Ghana Jollof case, arguing that the political affiliation of the individual at the centre of the matter should be acknowledged.
Mr Tameklo said Kevin Taylor, whom he described as a card-bearing member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should be identified as such rather than having the controversy portrayed as an issue involving the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He spoke on Accra-based TV3
According to him, attempts to distance the NPP from Mr Taylor while associating the matter with the NDC were regrettable.
“Kevin Taylor is a card-bearing member of the NPP.
Hence, the NPP disowning their own party member and making it an NDC problem is regrettable,” Mr Tameklo said.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions about the Ghana Jollof case and the political affiliations of individuals linked to the controversy.
Mr Tameklo’s intervention has introduced a political dimension to the debate, with the National Petroleum Aurthority(NPA) chief focusing on what he described as the NPP’s attempt to distance itself from Mr Taylor while shifting attention towards the NDC.
He argued that political affiliation should form part of the discussion surrounding the circumstances of the case and questioned the rationale behind what he described as the NPP’s decision to disown Mr Taylor.
The controversy has generated broader discussions about party membership, political responsibility and the extent to which political organisations should respond when individuals associated with them become involved in contentious matters.
For Mr Tameklo, the issue goes beyond the immediate controversy and concerns the responsibility of political parties to acknowledge their members.
