The District Chief Executive for Ahafo Ano South West, Abubakar Sedik, has died after a short illness.
Mr. Sedik died on Sunday, September 20, after returning to Mankranso from a stakeholder engagement meeting between leaders of trader groups and the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, on the completion of the Kejetia Phase Two project in Kumasi.
According to reports, the DCE complained of body pains after returning from the meeting and was subsequently rushed to the hospital, where he died.
Before his appointment as DCE for Ahafo Ano South West, Mr. Sedik was the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.
He was among the candidates who challenged the parliamentary election results in court after the NDC maintained that it had won the election, despite the New Patriotic Party candidate, Elvis Dapaah, being declared the winner.
Mr. Sedik was recently in the news after some members of the NPP accused him of spearheading an attempted demolition of a school facility at Mankranso to pave the way for the construction of a 24-hour economy market.
Meanwhile, NDC supporters and some residents have gathered at the NDC party office at Mankranso following the news of Mr. Sedik’s death.
