The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) contained a blaze at Madina Market early Friday, September 19, preventing extensive damage and saving lives.
According to GNFS, at 01:36 hrs, the service received a fire alert at the market entrance, and the first crew arrived within two minutes.
Four additional fire engines were deployed due to the fire’s rapid spread and the absence of nearby hydrants.
The fire affected wooden structures, two corn milling shops, and nine containers but was brought under control by 03:19 hrs and fully extinguished at 04:40 hrs.
Due to the prompt response, GNFS said, a one-storey warehouse and surrounding structures were saved. No casualties were reported, and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
